How to Sell on Facebook

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
Facebook can be used to sell things. If you are already using it avidly, this can be a very handy tool for you either permanently, or from time to time. This article discusses use of the Market Place tool on Facebook.

Steps

  1. Look around the Market Place to check it out. The Market Place lets you sell, give away, buy, ask or search for anything you want in a trusted and fun environment. You can also use Market Place to see what your friends are buying and selling.
  2. Start listing. All Facebook users can post their listings free of charge. To post a listing, follow this:
    • On the main page of Market Place, or on the listings page, select what type of a listing you want to post. Do this by selecting one of the tabs–"Sell It", "Give It Away", and "Ask for it").
    • Start typing into the box that is located near the top of the page. From there, you will be able to select the category that best fits your listing, enter your location, describe it and add more pictures.
  3. Understand the different types of listings. Here is a rundown of what each listing will do for you:
    • "Sell it" is for listing items that you want to sell.
    • "Give it Away" is for listing items that you want to give away for free
    • "Ask for it" is for posting a listing about what you are looking for (a "want ad").
  4. Check who can see your listing. By default, your listing will be viewable to any user on Market Place. Remember, just because someone can see your listing doesn't mean they can see your profile information - that is influenced by your main privacy settings. People who do not use Facebook can see your listings but they have to sign in to Facebook in order to respond to you.
  5. Consider adding a photo. While photos are not required, they are recommended. Browsers like to see what they're getting.
  6. View your listings. Within Market Place, select "My Listings" from the top of the page. This will take you to a view of all of your listings, which will allow you to easily edit, republish or close your listings.
  7. Edit a listing. If you need to make changes, this is easily done. From the "My Listings" page, click "Edit" by the listing you would like to modify. This will allow you to edit your listing.
  8. Close a listing. If you want to rush off to Paris and stop selling for the weekend, you can close down the listing easily. From the "My Listings" page, click "Close my listing" by the listing you would like to delete. It is not, however, possible to delete a listing. In order to create a safe and trusted marketplace, the history of everyone's posted listings is accessible.
  9. Search listings. To search by keyword, go to the "search" page by clicking on the "search" link near the top of any page, enter a search term in the search field in the left column, and press enter. After that, you can select a category as well as other criteria in the left column.
  10. Browse listings. From the main Market Place page, click on any category in the "Browse" box. From the search page, click on any category link in the left column.
  11. Respond to a listing. You can contact the owner of the listing by clicking on the "Contact" button right underneath the owner's picture. Or, you can write on the listing's wall and the owner will be notified.
  12. Report a listing where needed. A listing should be reported whenever you believe it to be spam, miscategorized, nudity or pornography, drug-related, threatening to a group or individual, violent, obscene, or if it contains copyrighted material. For more details on our Market Place abuse policy, check out the Terms of Use and Prohibited Content. You can report a listing by selecting "Report" on any listing (on the search page, first click on "Options" and then "Report"). Once you select "Report," a pop-up window will appear asking for more information. All reports are confidential. After you report a listing, it will be removed from your view. Your report will be reviewed by our customer support team, and they will take the appropriate action. All reports are confidential.
